General Information
Anchor pitons, also known as "Birdies" or "Якоря" in Russian, are very useful pieces of gear. They allow to organise safe protection in thin vertical ore close to vertical cracks. Due to their shape, the anchors become even more jammed in a case of a climbers fall. They are very useful for protection and for AID climbing. They perform well in winter on mixed terrain and in cracks filled with ice.
They come in various shapes, sizes, thicknesses and with different types of sharpening. They are available in steel or titanium.

The names of the anchors are made up of letters and numbers. For example AS3. Each letter or number has a specific meaning. The letter A in the name means "Anchor Piton". It's usually the first in the title, but sometimes it's not... Also keep in mind that usually the products themselves may not have this markings.

The number in the anchor's name indicates its size. It can be from 1 to 7. It's usually the last in the title, but sometimes it's not...
Here is the total length of the anchor, depending on the size. Not all models are available in every size.

1 - 60 mm
2 - 90 mm
3 - 95 mm
3a - 100 mm
4 - 115 mm
5 - 120 mm
6 - 130 mm
7 - 150 mm
AS1 - number 1 and A2D7(A,TN) - number 7

The following combinations are responsible for the anchor model:

S - Standart. For example AS3
3D - Sharp. For example A3D3
2D - Mixt. For example A2D3
SAP - Side anchor piton "BYAK" (Classical modification). For example SAP3(R)
B - "BYAK" (modification with straight leg). For example A4RB(L)
BS - "BYAK" (new modification from armor steel)
R - Modification for rapid. For example A4R
T - Version of BS with dyneema sling. For example A4TBS(L)(A,TN)

Flat Anchor Pitons
"S" - Standart
  • The cheapest model, since there is no sharpening and no complicated processing, nevertheless they are very durable, like all the other anchors in the line.
  • №1,2 are made of 2.8 mm thick steel. №3-7 are made of 3.5 mm thick steel.
  • Available in sizes 1-7.
  • Painted black.
AS6 "STANDART"

"3D" - Sharp
  • The model has the same basic geometry as the standard model, but with a sharpened beak. This makes it better suited for very narrow cracks and is generally more convenient to use.
  • №1,2 are made of 2.8 mm thick steel. №3,4,6 are made of 3.5 mm thick steel.
  • Available in sizes 1,2,3,4,6.
  • Painted red.
A3D6 "SHARP"

"2D" - Mixt
  • The model is designed for mixed terrain and cracks filled with ice. It has wavy teeth as a pick of ice tool and complex sharpening.
  • Made of 3.5 mm thick steel.
  • Available in sizes 3,5,7.
  • The colors may be different.
A2D7 (A,TN) "MIXT" on the picture. Regular version is thinner and colored red / black...

Anchor Pitons with a Bend
"SAP" - (Side anchor piton) or just "BYAK"
  • The classic version of the "BYAK". It has a wedge-shaped bend, which makes it work perfectly in wide cracks. Combining the principles of operation of a classic anchor and an eccentric. There are "L" (left) and "R" (right) versions, depending on the direction of the bend.
  • Made of 2.8 mm thick steel, so it's very light but still very strong thanks to its geometry.
  • Bushing to protect the carabiner from damage.
  • Available in sizes 3,4,6. (The anchors of this model are 5 mm shorter than all others of the same size).
  • Painted black.
SAP4(L) and SAP4(R)

"RB" - Version of "BYAK" anchor piton with rapid
  • The wedge-shaped bend of the beak is the same as on "SAP" model but the leg is straight. The quickdraw attaches directly to rapid without additional biner (You will need an additional sling with one carabiner for this setup. The rapid must be tightened with a wrench!) This setup provides a lot of advantages for racking and using anchor pitons. There are "L" (left) and "R" (right) versions, depending on the direction of the bend.
  • Made of 2.8 mm thick steel, so it's very light but still very strong thanks to its geometry.
  • Rapid (Camp 25KN) is included in the package.
  • Available only in size 4.
  • Painted violet.
A4RB(L)

"BS" Anchor Pitons
"BS" - A new version of "BYAK" anchor with the same principles of jamming as classic ones, but with a different manufacturing technology. "BS" anchors are made of 4.5 mm thick armor steel plates. The wedge corner is formed by milling a solid piece, instead of bending, which is used in classic "BYAK" models. Then each anchor is sharpened and polished. Finish coating is Titanium Nitride.

"RBS" - "BS" Version with rapid
  • The model is designed to be used with a non-detachable quickdraw, in a single setup. The quickdraw attaches directly to rapid without additional biner (You will need an additional sling with one carabiner for this setup. The rapid must be tightened with a wrench!) This setup provides a lot of advantages for racking and using anchor pitons. At the moment, there is only "L" (left) version.
  • Made of 4.5 mm armor steel. The thickness of the finished product varies from 3 to 4.3 millimeters in different parts.
  • Rapid (Camp 25KN) is included in the package.
  • Available only in size 3.
  • Titanium Nitride Coating.
A3RBS(L)(A,TN)

"TBS" - "BS" Version with dyneema sling ("T" - Tape)
  • The model is designed to be used with a non-detachable quickdraw, in a single setup. (You will need only one additional biner for this setup). This setup provides a lot of advantages for racking and using anchor pitons. An additional nylon insert is sewn into the sling at the point where it contacts the piton to prevent the sling from fraying. There are "L" (left) and "R" (right) versions, depending on the side of the wedge corner.
  • Made of 4.5 mm armor steel. The thickness of the finished product varies from 3 to 4.3 millimeters in different parts.
  • Comes with a 18 cm dyneema sling.
  • Available only in size 4.
  • Titanium Nitride Coating.

About the Materials:
Anchor Pitons are made of high-quality steel of different thicknesses, armor steel and titanium. However, there are some nuances...
  • Classic "BYAK" anchor pitons are made only from standard steel, as it is not possible to bend armor steel or titanium.
  • "BS" anchor pitons (new version of "BYAK") are made only from armor steel.
  • The basic versions of the "Standard", "Sharp", and "Mixt" models are made from standard steel, and painted with powder paint. But they can also be made from armor steel and titanium. The difference is not only in the material but also in the quality of processing. If they are made from armor steel they undergo more extended sharpening process, which is then followed by polishing and coating with Titanium Nitride. They gain additional marking (A,TN). Armor steel version is slightly thicker than the regular one and much harder. Titanium version is marked as "T" in the title. For example AT3D2 - is a titanium version of "Sharp" model. Sometimes it can be marked with "Ti" in the end. For example A2D7(Ti) - is a titanium version of "Mixt" model. Titanium anchors are much lighter than traditional ones. The thickness of titanium anchors depends on the grade of titanium used and can vary a lot. Anchors made from BT-23 titanium are especially thin and light.

Sometimes, Krukonogi - Titanium produces small batches of anchor pitons for special orders customized to meet individual needs.
